Interpretive Guide Training
Tourism Champion believes that being friendly, passionate, inquisitive and engaging are the base qualities of a good tour guide; but alone that’s not enough. Rather than simply repeating memorized facts & figures, we help good guides become an interpretive guide. Guides, hosts, docents, park rangers, learn a communication process teaching them how to compare and contrast new information (in nature, in a museum or wherever interpretive tours are being provided) with things your guests are familiar with. Interpretive Guides create an emotional and intellectual connection to enhance the guest’s experience. Guest retain more, appreciate the resource being shared, and may even take action.
Tourism Champion is Certified as an Interpretive Trainer by the National Association for Interpretation (NAI).
In addition to personally conducting countless tours for employers, clients and nature programs during nine years as a volunteer naturalist with Boulder County Parks & Open Space, Steve has teamed with, observed and coached guides at destinations across North America. Interpretive Guide Training offered by Tourism Champion grew out of the realization that just being a friendly local with destination knowledge may be inadequate for ensuring guests have a great tour experience.
Tourism Champion is committed to helping friendly, enthusiastic tourist guides learn the skills, techniques and methods of an interpretive guide. The result? Your guides will be a better advocate for your destination or attraction, and the resources, natural or man-made, that attract people to visit.
Tourism Champion is authorized to conduct the official Certified Interpretive Guide certification training course sanctioned by the National Association for Interpretation.
A Customized Full-Day Certificate Program can be developed to suit the specific needs of your organization.
